Dinagat-Bakasi Festival - Cordova, Cebu
Dinagat- Bakasi festival is a unique reinvention of the Dinagat Festival. The exotic eel locally known as "Bakasi"is peculiar and abundant in Cordova. The dance replicates the gliding movement of the Bakasi. Dinagat takes its name from the Filipino word ‘dagat.’ which means sea The festival celebrates the bounties of the sea. It's aim is to promote awareness and respect for the marine life, protection of the marine resources, and to inspire conservation efforts from local, national, and international organizations. The festival is celebrated in Cordova every 2nd sunday of August to honor and give tribute to the sea, which is the main source of the town’s livelihood.The Festival was founded last 2009 and its main purpose is to showcase the livelihood and fishing culture of the Cordovanhons and promote cordova as a tourist destination. The annual Festival is celebrated in time of the fiesta in honor of the town's Patron Saint. Sr. San Roque. It is a thanksgiving to the sea for the abundance of it's marine resources especially to the trademark and pride for Cordova, the eel of Bakasi.
